It's All Happening!
A Retreat Week game, major system upgrades, and did someone say something about shoes?
We’re super excited to share the first dOrg Occasional Newsletter with you!
Why Occasional Newsletter, I hear you ask?
Well, we don’t want to be more noise in an already noisy world so we’ll only be sharing a newsletter when there is something huge happening in dOrg, (like our retreat starting today), there have been some major upgrades to our internal systems and we want you to have the info about it (so that you can take advantage of these upgrades and your life as a dOrg builder can be improved), or there’s new dOrg merch hitting the streets.
So, enough GIFfing around, let’s dive in!
The dOrg Retreat: Let’s Get Creative Together
This week kicks off what will hopefully be the first of dOrg’s annual retreats! About 25 dOrgsters are now gathered in sunny Barcelona ☀️ for a week of co-working, co-creating, and co-fun. Check out the schedule for more information:
But if you can’t make it, never fear, we’ve cooked up something for everyone. Drumroll… 🥁 Here’s how it’s going to work:
Throughout the retreat, we’ll be facilitating a game that any dOrgster can join, whether in-person or virtually (What? Can it be so? Oh yes it can!).
By now, dOrg’s Experience Facilitator will have reached out to everyone that isn’t heading off to Barcelona to ask if you would like to join a virtual team.
If you’re reading this and you’re not on a virtual team and would like to be, just DM Anna-Marie and she’ll get on a team before you can say ‘let’s design NFTs together’ (ooh, is that a clue? Yes!).
I’ll say it again: Let’s Design NFTs Together!
From Monday to Thursday, anyone taking part in the retreat, either in Barcelona or remotely, will be placed in small teams.
The folks in Barcelona will be part of in-person teams. Running alongside these teams will be remote teams.
The goal of the game? To create a shared NFT that represents something important to each team member that you’ll share with the rest of dOrg during Thursday’s All-Hands.
You can include music, graphics, video clips, images you’ve created or images you’ve found, it can be moving or still, or create an NFT including something that we can’t even imagine yet!
The rules? 1. It has to be a team effort. 2. It has to include a representation of something important to each team member. 3. The process has to be fun and not taken too seriously!
If you are in Barcelona: your team is also your retreat buddy system. Decide what that means to you as a team. Will you meet up once a day to see how you’re all doing? Will you decide to block out time to co-work together? Will you go out for a meal together one night? Will your team have a team name? (Will you have a secret handshake?)
If you’re in a remote team: why not set up a private team Discord chat? Or a WhatsApp group? And use this time to get to find out a bit more about the projects your teammates are working on? And what’s going on in their lives? You should have been allocated teammates that sync with your timezone so maybe you want to find one time to video call together? Or perhaps you want to work entirely async-ly?

Key dOrg Upgrades
The internally-focused builders have been hard at work on upgrading our information systems.
Yes, we think they’re really pretty!
Have questions about the process to follow as a new Sourcing Lead? Want to know dOrg’s values, mission, and strategy? Not certain how to set up your builder profile on dOrg’s forum, or why it matters so much? Confused about how to set up a Snapshot vote or vote on a proposal?
The dOrg Handbook is now bursting with useful information and we hope you’ll start referring to it as the first place you go when you’re not certain how to do something or you have a question. Just click on the sub-heading above and you’ll be magically whisked away to see the wonder for yourself.
Setting Up Your Builder Profile
We’ve set up easy-to-set-up and easy-to-search-for builder profiles in the dOrg forum.
Now, all you need to do to find the right builder is use the forum search bar to search through our whole community for the matching experience levels, availability, skills, and technologies your project needs. Plus, the profiles show past and current dOrg projects, which means that builders can reach out to fellow builders for testimonials!
Watch this less-than-5-mins video on how to set up your builder profile on the dOrg forum!
Head to the handbook here for all things forum related!
Interested in internal projects? Alongside our Dev Standards work, we’re kicking off new working groups exploring automating sourcing (to improve our sourcing process), packaged services (to improve our client service and to create new upskilling opportunities), and Governance Tools and DAO Mechanisms (to improve how we facilitate DAO activities and growth).
Click on the main sub-heading to read more about them and to get involved!
Did someone say something about… shoes?
Moment of suspense… Drumroll…
If you’re a new builder you might not know that dOrg has collaborated with Metafactory to create new dOrg merch (oh yes we have).
When are those gorgeous dOrg shoes going to be ready to wear? My feet are colourless and other trainers just aren’t cutting it - I hear you ask/say.
So, here’s the lowdown:
The shoes are already designed and ready to go.
There will be a 3-day window to buy them on Metafactory.
There will also be a surprise NFT included.
This will be the only time the shoes can ever be purchased. Once the drop date is announced we’ll need everyone’s help to spread the news far and wide, tell your friends and family etc., so keep a close eye on our merch channel on Discord (#merch).
